Overview

Miata Borders Substitute Teacher TikTok Video Controversy refers to a viral video posted by TikToker @thehandmade.ceo, real name Miata Borders, in which they record themselves starting her "new hustle" as a substitute teacher at a school, later reported to be Lake Cormorant High School in Mississippi's DeSoto County School District. The video shows the TikToker dressed in a dark blue checkered shirt and khaki pants as they go about their first day at school, teaching, grabbing lunch and walking around the halls while recording students' reactions to them. Several students are shown to be reacting with surprise at seeing a substitute teacher who looks like Borders, and one clip later shows a young student looking at Borders, prompting her to respond, "Damn, shorty, sheesh. Man, I gotta get up after these school kids tryna take me down."

Borders' video gathered over 500,000 views in short order and multiple comments admonishing her for posting schoolkids' faces without parental permission before it was removed from TikTok. In a later video, Borders said that she was fired from the school after her first day at work. Several internet users reacted to the viral video and specifically Borders' decision to call a young student "shorty," while Borders made repeated posts on Twitter / X denying accusations that she was flirting with the student.
