A Series Of Unfortunate Events Cover Parodies are photoshop edits of the cover of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events books in which the image accompanying the book's title is replaced with an image of a person or message that is meant to signify the start of a tragic narrative.

Origin

On May 7th, 2017, Reddit user CtrlAltFetus[1] uploaded the first photoshop edit of the book's cover, replacing the artwork with a book titled "History of the Jews," gaining 308 points (shown below).

Over the next few days, several more edits began to appear on reddit, particularly on Meme Economy. There, user UrBoiAntelope[2] uploaded one of the most popular examples on May 10th, depicting a drinking straw wrapper opened only to show the straw sealed shut, gaining over 11,000 points (shown below).

The popularity of the post was one of over a dozen that appeared on the subreddit in the next two days. However, it was noted by FastAbsorbing[3] that UrBoiAntelope had been submitting many examples, accusing him of trying to "manipulate the market." Nevertheless, a large number of memes using the template (provided by rehpotsirhc123,[4] shown below) appeared on the subreddit, created by different users.

Slight Spoilers
There wasn't much of an ending, as it pretty much Lemony stating that the trail of the orphans has gone cold and considers the point the trail went cold to be a satisfactory ending.. It was a bit of an ass pull, as it was made to mock the concept of endings, especially one for a book series that got more and more bonkers and complicated with each installment.
