Thank you, I've seen people criticize this stuff before rightoids figured out how to plug in a keyboard, and it has been a source of infinite frustration seeing politics infect everything to the point disliking Star Wars TLJ makes you right wing, but I digress.

I think it's worth pointing out that a black samurai and historical inaccuracies are smoke to the actual fire, though many people subconsciously conflate the two. Nioh had both and people didn't complain, more the opposite, and this is why context matters. I don't have insider access to Ubisoft, so all I can do is point to the "smoke" in relation to the problem.

Case in point, I heard second-hand Asmongold say that when AC Shadows comes out a black samurai won't be in the top 20 problems the game has. If true that's mildly surprisingly, but an astute point, and afaik he's dogged on the game since the reveal.

To your point about inde games, they by definition don't usually have consultants or corpo overlords trying to influence their work, and as a result they are much more authentic. To strain my smoke/fire metaphor, smoke coming from a campsite or chimney is unlikely to raise alarm or more than an eyebrow, however seeing the same from a nature preserve or apartment building would be the opposite.
