Bernard is an Emoji from the messaging app "Kik". It became popular among users of the application called iFunny particularly among the iPolitics community. Bernard is a polar bear and has been used in many memes on iFunny.

On February 4th, 2017 iFunny user New_California_Republic went to the "He Will Not Divide Us" live stream holding a sign with Bernard on it. Immediately after iFunny users began making many memes featuring Bernard. Then in an attempt to get Bernard labeled as a hate symbol iFunny users spammed Bernard memes to various news outlets on twitter. It achieved mild success when it was briefly mentioned in a buzz feed article as one of the many "Alt-right memes".
