About
Chris Pine Is Chuck Tingle Theory is a conspiracy theory that actor Chris Pine is secretly noted comedy erotica writer Chuck Tingle. The theory comes from the notable revelation that Pine once took an erotica writing class where he was reported to have been talented and respectful.
Origin
On November 12th, 2017, Twitter user @chairadventures[1] responded to a prompt asking for surprisingly positive "allegations" against celebrities by relating a time that she student-taught an erotica writing class at UC Berkeley in 2002, which Pine, a student there, attended. She stated he was a "FANTASTIC writer" and "never creepy" (shown below, left). On August 7th, 2020, user @CordialWords[2] joked that a picture of Pine with an apparent bag full of books represented him buying copies of his secretly-published erotica books. This led user @jediemma[3] to joke, "Is Chris Pine Chuck Tingle?", gaining over 50 retweets and 260 likes in two years (shown below, right).
Spread
The rumor began growing more prominently in the summer of 2022 after Tingle tweeted about Pine's Dungeons and Dragons film. After the trailer for the film dropped in July 2022, Twitter user @Rachel_Conrad brought the theory back up, to Tingle's approval[4] (shown below, left). On September 5th, 2022, in the midst of the Don't Worry Darling drama, Twitter user @bookhoarding[5] posted a joke asking why no reporter asked Pine about his erotica-writing past, gaining over 360 retweets and 4,100 likes in 15 days (shown below, right).
The same day, September 5th, Tingle[6] said he appreciated the comparisons, writing, "One thing chuck loves about handsome chris discourse is that my way as autistic bud and bi bud is NOT visible so it warms my heart to see buds say 'it is not my place assume chris pine is straight and neurotypical, he could be chuck who knows' honestly so moving and important" (shown below).
