Dancing Hermione refers to a series of viral videos of YouTuber Kelsey Ellison dancing while dressed as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter film franchise.

Origin

On May 27th, 2018, Twitter [1] user @noodlerella tweeted a video of Kelsey Ellsion dancing at MCM Comic Con in London, England. They captioned the tweet, "Come through Hogwarts!!" The post (shown below) received more than 32,000 retweets, 98,000 likes and 8.6 million views in less than two months.


Spread

The inital video received significant attention from a number of media outlets, including BuzzFeed, [2] Mashable, [3] and more. Additionally, Twitter[4] published a Moments page regarding the reaction to the video.

On May 30th, Ellison published another video of "Dancing Hermione." The post (shown below, left) received more than 745,000 views in less than two months.

Two days later, she published a vlog entitled "UNSEEN HERMIONE DANCING! (MCM Comic Con Vlog!)" The video (shown below, right) features more of the Hermione dance as well as outtakes from the original video.

About a month later, Twitter[5] user @HannahSnow publsihed a video of Ellison dancing at a London Pride ceparadelebration. They captioned the tweet, "Dancing Hermione found her people 🏳️‍🌈 @KelseyEllison." The post (shown below) received more than 94,000 retweets, 286,000 views and 6.4 million views in three days.

The followup video received more media attention with outlets such as NME,[6] Mashable,[7] HelloGiggles[8] and more.
