About

Distressed Fumino refers to a scene from episode nine of the 2019 slice of life anime series We Never Learn in which character Fumino Furuhashi rapidly changes her expression from that of excitement to that of deep distress. Online, a four-panel meme format based on the scene has been circulated, used in a similar manner to the Stressed Chika meme format.

Origin

On June 2nd, 2019, episode nine "He Struggles with [X] in a Forbidden Zone" of anime series We Never Learn (Bokutachi wa Benkyō ga Dekinai) premiered in Japan.[1] In one scene of the episode, character Fumino Furuhashi exits a fitting room at a lingerie shop and realizes that the person assisting her before was the main protagonist Nariyuki Yuiga. She proceeds to react by rapidly changing her facial expression to that of deep distress.

Seeing a new potential format to replace the Chika format Taking the time to get the images needed to make a format Realizing that this is the Internet and am probably really late to the idea Making the format anyway in hopes that it's not too late to try and start something

In the following weeks, the format gained a significant presence on Reddit, primarily in /r/animemes community.[3][4]
