About
Eurobeat Remixes are a series of videos involving footage of cars or drifts with eurobeat songs as background. The edits, which parody the anime series Initial D, often use the songs “Running in the 90's” and "Deja Vu".
Origin
The edits are inspired by the racing anime series Initial D, which gained notoriety due its eurobeat soundtrack, a dance-pop musical style developed in the 80's.[1] On July 19th, 2014, YouTuber Inkerlink uploaded a scene from the 2006 action film Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift with the eurobeat song Dancing in the Street by David Dima. In the following two years, the song gained over 3,000 views.
Spread
On January 15th, 2015, an anonymous user posted on 4chan's worksafe gif (/wsg/) board a webm featuring a car drifting over a frozen with the song Futureland from the Eurobeat artist A.C.E. in the background.[2] On February 2nd, another anonymous user posted an anti-speeding Irish ad with Running in the 90's in the background.[3]
[Autoplay removed]
During the following months, the remixes remaint dormant, being one of the earliest archived dedicated threads dated on November 30th.[4] On September 6th, YouTuber Bah s uploaded a webm compilation, gaining over 1,300 views in the following year. Several months later, on April 18th, 2016, YouTuber Naaquh uploaded another compilation, gaining over 171,000 views in the following four months.
