About

"Gas Gas Gas" is a 2007 Eurobeat song by Italian musician Manuel Karamori that gained prominence following its inclusion in the soundtracks of video games and anime series based on popular Japanese street racing manga franchise Initial D. In the mid-2010s, the song became widely sampled in dozens of video game music (VGM) remixes and parodies featuring other viral videos on YouTube.

Origin

Heavily influenced by Eurobeat and other uptempo genres of electronic dance music, the track was originally released as part of the compilation album Super Eurobeat Volume 183 on December 26th, 2007.[2] However, Karamori's song largely remained in obscurity outside of Eurobeat subculture until it became featured in the soundtrack of Initial D media franchise.[3]

Spread

The song began growing popular in parodies in late 2016 and early 2017. For example, on December 23rd, 2016, YouTuber parkanaur posted a CCTV video of a Russian car driving through an airport, gaining over 2.1 million views (shown below, right). On August 9th, 2017, YouTuber Malfoy edited a scene from the film Baby Driver with the song, gaining over 410,000 views (shown below, left).

The track was also popular in SiIvaGunner rips in mid-2017.[4] On May 16th, the channel uploaded their first rip with the tune, gaining over 78,000 views (shown below, left). The channel has made 19 rips with the song since in total.[5]

2019 Christchurch Mosque Shootings

On March 15th, 2019, shootings took place at the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand, where at least 49 people were killed and an additional 20 were injured. The attacks were livestreamed by the suspected shooter on Facebook. During portions of the stream, the songs "Remove Kebab" and "Gas Gas Gas" could be heard playing in the background.
