Overview
Occupy Silicon Valley will be a forthcoming series of anti-tech Luddite protests in Silicon Valley that seek to resolve inequality across the tech sector. It will be a sequel of sorts to Occupy Silicon Valley.
Background
On May 22th, 2011, CNBC[1] reports that Bank of America Merrill Lynch released a report titled "Occupy Silicon Valley."
According to chief investment strategist Michael Hartnett, the tech stock rally "could ultimately lead to populist calls for redistribution of the increasingly concentrated wealth of Silicon Valley," as more people are being left behind economically despite the massive expansion of global digital technology business. He also noted that, in particular, Google and Amazon are bigger than Chicago and Washington respectively.
Pre-Demonstration
Hundreds of readers chimed in with comments supporting and opposing the occupation of Silicon Valley.
In August, OZY[2] published an article and video about activist Van Jones on why they should occupy Silicon Valley. He said that robots are coming to take away jobs, and making humans lazy in the long run.
On January 10th, 2018, the blog of Sinead Bovell[3] posted an article on why Occupy Silicon Valley is on the horizon. It noted minor ripples of an Occupy Silicon Valley state, namely the backlash against Twitter and Facebook over the election tampering, the increasing concern over privacy, the boycott threatening-calls to tech firms to side with leftist political personnel and social movements.
Demonstration
On September 17, 2018, an Occupy Silicon Valley protest began with the social media blackout.
