Girl Screaming refers to a viral video of a girl screaming that became a popular exploitable in March 2018 on Twitter (X), Instagram, YouTube and inspired the Me Explaining to My Mom meme.
Origin
On March 14th, 2018, [1] user @quenblackwell posted a video with the caption ” Sometimes you just have to let it out..scream if you have to.” In the video, she tries to shout to stop feeling sad but ultimately she says, "No, I'm still sad," which quickly went viral on social media, garnering over 94,000 likes and 47,000 retweets in five years.

On March 20th, 2021, Quenlin Blackwell explained the origin of the video[2] and the subsequent Me Explaining To My Mom meme that was born of it in a Buzzfeed interview video (shown below). The post received more than 10 million views and 534,000 likes in two years.

In the following years after the video went viral, a still image of Quenlin Blackwell became a viral exploitable meme. For example, on March 19th, 2019, the picture (shown below, left) was used in the Me Explaining to My Mom meme, which garnered over 452 likes and 203 retweets in four years. On September 10th, 2023, X[3] user @xsmellycatx posted Blackwell's still picture screaming as a reaction image in a post about a book she wants to read. The tweet amassed more than 282 likes and 62 retweets in a week.
