Goku's Racist Evolution, also known as I'm About To Get Racist, refers to a series of meme videos and exploitable images in which Son Goku and/or other Dragon Ball characters declare they will become gradually more racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, anti-semitic or transphobic as they power-up through their transformations.

Origin

The original images used in the format were posted on iFunny prior to April 2020. On April 24th, 2020, Twitter user @reactjpg started a thread by posting two reaction images of Goku getting "more racist" captioned with Impact Font. Several other Twitter users replied with images of Goku with similar captions (shown, below).^[1]

The video "Goku's Racist Evolution" was uploaded on June 11th, 2020, by YouTuber Arvelonis. The video showcases Goku powering up through his transformations as he gradually becomes more racist, from Super Saiyan to Ultra Instinct.^[2] The video (shown, below) received over 6,700,000 views and over 353, 000 likes in 2 years.

After becoming a viral meme, several other videos appeared with the same format, often featuring different Dragon Ball characters. On September 18th, 2020, "Homophobic Gohan" was uploaded by Rheides on YouTube, garnering over 1,853,000 views and 121,000 likes in 21 months (shown below, left).^[3] On December 3rd, 2020, "Vegeta's Transphobic Evolution" was uploaded on YouTube by Mlgsyd, gaining over 766,000 views and 49,000 likes in 17 months (shown below, right).^[4]

On December 25th, 2020, "Frieza's Anti-Semitic Evolution (meme)" was uploaded to YouTube by Darian64, gaining over 96,000 views and 7,800 likes in 18 months (shown below, left).^[5] On May 2nd, 2021, a version of the meme featuring Raiden from the Metal Gear series was uploaded on YouTube by a user named Merchant. The video received over 592,000 views and 54,000 likes in one year (shown below, right).^[6]
