The filter was first released in October 2022 by TikToker @cameronkaukau80 and trended in the following months as numerous users began creating videos with it.

On September 29th, 2022, TikToker^[1] @cameronkaukau80 posted a video showing a filter he was making, alongside a text overlay that read, "Guys should I release this Goofy Ahh filter." The post gathered over 2.5 million plays and over 400,000 likes in two months (seen below, left). On October 6th, the TikToker^[2] posted a video using the filter, gathering 2.8 million plays and over 200,000 likes in nearly two months (seen below, right).

On October 11th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @minayasweet0 posted a video using the filter, gathering over 960,000 plays and over 280,000 likes in nearly two months (seen below, left). On October 14th, TIkToker^[4] @tyler_is_gray posted a video using the filter, joking about how it can be used to avert panic attacks. The video gathered over 730,000 plays and over 180,000 likes in nearly two months (seen below, right).

On November 30th, 2022, TikToker^[5] @sapphicsicko222 uploaded the most viral post at the time using the filter, gathering over 9 million plays and over 2.1 million likes in two days (seen below, right). On December 1st, TikToker^[6] @notmr.bigchops69 posted a video using the filter as well, gathering over 3 million plays and 430,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).
