Happy Shadow (also called "The Legendary Happy Shadow" by the original artist: Swedish user Shadoukun) is a digital work of fanart drawn in the impression of Yuji Uekawa's Adventure era Sonic style. Something about the appearance of this beginner level art often makes people use it in exploitable meme formats [1]. Happy Shadow is recycled in amateur artist fan work as well. [2]
Beginning
It was posted initially on DeviantArt teasing a school project magazine by users GhostieShadow and Shadowkun [3]. As of 2022 it has 6k views and over 20k downloads according to DeviantArt metrics.
Meme-ification
it gradually became a likely choice of imagery for comical and serious works of content related to the Sonic the hedgehog series unofficially and often without proper credit. Recently, merchandising is included in the digital piracy. [4]
