Hardware Store is a song from Weird Al Yankovic's album "Poodle Hat", which released on May 20th, 2003.[1] The song has been used by fans to make their own music videos of the song, as well as on sites such as YTMND.
Origin
On May 20th, 2003 the album "Poodle Hat" was released, with Hardware Store as the second song on the album. On November 7th, 2014, the song was posted to Weird Al's official YouTube channel, alyankovic.[2] The song (shown below) received over 4.8 million views in over nine years.
Spread
On June 27th, 2006, ReapZ[3] posted a music video of the song on YouTube using characters from World of Warcraft. The video (shown below, left) received over 1.1 million views in over eighteen years. On May 20th, 2007, Dave Hartley[4] posted a music video of the song on YouTube using live action footage. The video (shown below, right) received over 371,000 views in over seventeen years.
On July 8th, 2007, Newgrounds user Oney[5] posted a music video of the song, which was made with Macromedia Flash, titled "Weird Al's Best". The video (shown below, left) received over 586,000 views in over seventeen years. On August 12th, 2014, Yoshi Greenwater[6] posted a YouTube music video of the song starring My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic character Cheese Sandwich. The video (shown below, right) received over 112,000 views in nearly ten years.
Stan Sells Everything
The song was also popular for use in YTMND's. On May 31st, 2006, YTMND user Torico[7] posted a YTMND which uses the song with a scene from the computer game Monkey Island in which merchant Stan S. Stanman tries to sell things to Guybrush Threepwood. The YTMND (YouTube reupload shown below, left) received over 560,000 views in over eighteen years. On November 24th, 2009, YouTube user Mister Prawn[8] posted a video using the format with Scout and Sniper from Team Fortress 2. The video (shown below, right) received over 396,000 views in over fourteen years.
