"I'm Never Gonna Financially Recover from This" is a memorable quote uttered by Joe Exotic on the Netflix docuseries Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness. Online, a screenshot of Exotic saying the line has been used as a reaction image to express feelings of fiscal distress.

Origin

On March 20th, 2020, Netflix premiered the docuseries Tiger King. In episode two of the series, which details various exotic cat zookeepers, features a segment an accident wherein which an employee of Joe Exotic's at the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park had his arm ripped off. When Exotic hears about the accident, he responds, "I'm never going to financially recover from this."

That day, Twitter user @bridger_w shared the clip of Exotic saying the line "Me after I spend six dollars." The tweet received more than 27,000 views, 930 likes and 150 retweets in less than two weeks (shown below).

Over the next week, others shared variations on the meme, captioning it with different jokes about finances and money. For example, on March 26th, Redditor ^[1] midwrestless shared a version of the meme in which Exotic's image reacts to "This part was so insane because Joe clearly puts on a paramedics jacket before doing anything else. Someone's arm has been ripped off and he hits up the closet first lmao." The post received more than 425 points (100% upvoted) in less than one week (shown below, left).

On March 28th, 2020, Redditor^[2] Hard_From_The_Yard posted a version in which the image responds to "When your friend loses in gulags and you have to buy him back." The post received more than 870 points (99% upvoted) in less than two days (shown below, center).

That day, Instagram ^[3] user @veganxsancho shared a variation in which the image responds to the caption "Punks after losing $200 income due to not working for two weeks." the post received more than 1,000 likes in less than one week (shown below, right).
