History
On December 9th, 2020, Paramount+ picked up the iCarly series reboot,[1] announcing that Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress would return to reprise their roles from the original series that ran from 2007-2012. Jennette McCurdy, who played Sam in the original show, will not return to reprise her role, as she has quit acting.[2] Noah Munck, who played Gibby, will also not be returning. In March of 2021, Laci Mosley and Jaidyn Triplett were announced to be part of the cast, with Mosley playing Carly's roommate and best friend and Triplett playing Millicent, Freddie's (Kress) stepdaughter.[3]
On June 1st, 2021, Paramount Plus released the first trailer for the show. The show will debut on June 17th, 2021.
Online Presence
The reboot has received mixed responses from fans of the original show. Laci Mosley was the target of racist hate online, as some fans perceived she was a replacement for McCurdy. She tweeted that she saw videos directing racist hate towards her on TikTok (shown below, left), prompting writer Francesca Ramsey to voice her support for Mosley and invite iCarly fans to call out racism[4] (shown below, right).
The release of the trailer generated more positive responses from fans. The trailer confirmed that secondary characters Nevel Papperman and Nora Dershlit would return in the reboot,[5] causing excitement for the show's return.
