Gibby Requires Soil / Coochie refers to a surreal shitpost showing a bald, legless and handless Gibby from iCarly floating in front of a door captioned "Gibby requires soil," as if he's searching for soil. The meme first appeared on Reddit in 2018 and has since become an exploitable where people change "soil" to something else. A version of the meme reading "Gibby requires coochie" was uploaded late that year, becoming significantly popular as well.

Origin

On November 19th, 2018, Redditor shy_louie posted a surreal meme to /r/me_irl^[1] showing a cutout of an angry-looking Gibby removing his hair, legs and hands floating in front of a door alongside the caption, "Gibby requires soil," gaining over 3,300 upvotes in three years (shown below).

On November 28th, Redditor The_Slav_Superstar posted a meme to /r/surrealmemes^[2] about Gibby finding the soil, showing him on the Windows XP hill background with an open door surrounded by soil and shovels, gaining over 900 upvotes in three years (shown below, left). On December 13th, a now-deleted Redditor posted a photoshopped version of the original meme replacing "soil" with "coochie" to /r/pewdiepiesubmissions^[3] (shown below, right). This is the earliest known upload of the coochie edit. It was shared by Instagram^[5] page cursedvideoz in September 2019, gaining over 13,000 likes in two years.

Spread

The meme inspired a number of other photoshops and memes based on it. For example, on July 9th, 2019, iFunny^[4] user Basedbuzzlightyear posted a meme of Gibby with his face on his gut holding a banana captioned "Gibby requires that you vaccinate your offspring," gaining over 60 smiles in two years (shown below).
