Naming the dish was used to mock waspy (WASP meaning "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant"), rich people, commonly in quote tweets that associated the media with the stereotype or written in contextless posts to further the inside joke. The original posts were parodying New York Times recipes and products at Trader Joe's.

On May 16th, 2023, X^[1] user @babytajine tweeted about New York Times recipes, writing, "Every NYT recipe: harissa miso gochujang sheet pan angel hair pasta." The post received over 3,400 likes in two years (shown below).
