Max Kanté is a supporting character from the French animation Miraculous Ladybug introduced in October 2015. The character gained viral attention in early February 2025 on X / Twitter after a user called it "the lamest black character ever" for its alleged," inspiring netizens to create memes and jokes comparing Kanté with Steve Urkel, from the Sitcom Family Matters.
Origin
Max Kanté was first introduced as a background character on October 25th, 2015, in "The Evillustrator"[1] episode of the series Miraculous Ladybug. On April 25th, 2024, Miraculous Ladybug's official YouTube[2] posted the full episode Kanté appears (seen below), which amassed more than 3.2 million views and 14,000 likes in a year.
Spread
The character gained significant viral attention on February 1st, 2025, when X[3] user @zxnoshima posted four images of Max Kanté, stating, "I think I just came across perhaps the lamest black character ever conceived by man." This tweet rapidly gained traction, receiving over 1.9 million views and 64,000 likes in a day.
In response to @zxnoshima's tweet, posted on the same day, X[5] user @Enzito_SG compared Kanté to a character from the Sitcom Family Matters, writing "Imagine having less aura than Steve Urkel." The tweet (seen below) received more than 116,000 views and 4,600 likes in a day.
Prior to the above tweet, Kanté was also the subject of memes and jokes in the Miraculous fandom. For instance, on May 9th, 2021, X[4] user @Maritime_Mouse compared the character design with a similar character from the Subway Surfers mobile game. The tweet (seen below) amassed roughly 267 likes and 38 reposts in four years.
