The music was created by Francesco Misseri and Piero Barbetti, featuring two stop-motion cats walking and smiling. The YouTube channel @GeneracionMillennials^[2] uploaded the intro song on September 8th, 2018, receiving 724,345 plays and 24,000 likes in five years.

On January 25th, 2022, the TikTok user @1dkspeed^[3] uploaded a speed-up version of the music Mio Mao la la la la la, receiving 2,1 million plays and 92,100 likes in a year. The post also was used as audio for a viral dance trend, garnering 1,3 million videos on the platform as of February 2023.

One of the first viral videos doing the dance trend was uploaded on December 27th, 2022, by TikTok user @ztepziste^[4]. The post (below, left) received 4 million plays and 917,500 likes in three months. The dance is commonly done by one or more friends, like the video (below, right) posted by @xaraxella^[5] on January 25th, 2023, in which she dances with a friend that garnered 23,5 million plays and 4,3 million likes in one month.

The nine-year-old North West^[6] – - whose father is Kanye West and mother is Kim Kardashian – joined the trend on January 23rd, 2023, doing the moves as the audio Mio Mao la la la la la by Francesco Misseri and Piero Barbetti played. The post garnered 74,6 million plays and 9,1 million likes in one month.
