No Griddy December, or NGD for short, is a parody of No Nut November where participants must refrain from hitting the Griddy for the month of December. The meme began on TikTok in late November 2022 and inspired videos throughout December in which users share their progress with the internet challenge.
Origin
Throughout 2022, the Griddy became one of the most prominent dances on TikTok. Parody memes of No Nut November about "not hitting the Griddy" started to gain virality on TikTok in late 2022. For example, in October 2022, several TikTokers,[1] including @griffmass, made videos suggesting October is "No Griddy October. Throughout late November, TikTokers began suggesting that No Griddy December was coming. On December 1st, 2022, TikToker[2] @assezviolemment posted a video announcing the first day of NGD, garnering over 2.7 million views in two weeks (shown below, left). On the same day, TikToker[3] @hutchbucketz posted a video where he hits the Griddy in defiance of NGD, garnering over 163,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

TikTokers continued posting about NGD throughout December, often in videos joking that it is more difficult than NNN. On December 1st, 2022, TikToker[4] @just_alex.752 posted a God of War meme about the event, garnering over 800,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

On December 3rd, TikToker[5] @theerealjmc posted a video where he purposely fails the challenge, garnering over 300,000 views in two weeks (shown below). The meme also spread to Twitter later that month. On December 16th, Twitter[6] user @YungFika, a crew member on the H3 Podcast, posted, "on day 16 of no griddy December, holding strong!!!💯😎💸" garnering over 240 likes in under a day.
