Part of a series on SpongeBob SquarePants. [View Related Entries]

About

So Now X Is Going To Preach To Us refers to a line said by Incidental 7, one of the background characters on the TV show SpongeBob SquarePants as part of the episode "Band Geeks," which features the famous Sweet Victory song. The line and scene are used as an image macro format to make fun of someone who is attempting to join a conversation when the meme creator doesn't want them included, replacing the subject while keeping the original quote as a phrasal template.

Origin

The episode "Band Geeks" first came out on September 7th, 2001. In the episode, SpongeBob attempts to recruit people to form a band to help Squidward and a fight breaks out. Before the fighting begins, SpongeBob attempts to de-escalate the situation, at which time this line is said about him. The quote is part of the sequence that was uploaded to YouTube[2] by the channel Zathorn4126 on June 5th, 2021, earning 60,000 views in five months (shown below).

On April 8th, 2015, iFunnier TheJoJoGuide_2014[3] uploaded a screenshot from a now-defunct Tumblr thread in which the lines are said above the character scene, earning 93 likes in seven years (shown below).

OH SO NOW THE TALKING CHEESE IS GONNA PREACH TO US OD 80

Spread

Years later, the meme became increasingly used online with slight variations to it. An example of this is seen on the iFunny[4] post by the user brianaarosee24, which used the format as a way to call themselves out at a family gathering (shown below).

My family anytime I try to say anything to them Oh, so now the Crackhead is going to preach to us.

On October 9th, 2019, Twitter[5] user @offlinemod3 uploaded a meme of the scene, which replaced the words "talking cheese" with "Twitter for Android," in response to a tweet reply from someone who was using the Twitter for Android mobile application, insinuating that their opinion should be discarded (shown below).
