About
Online Handshake (Bahasa: Salaman Online) refers to hand with handshake-like pose photo that has been used to depicting someone doing handshake with other people online. This trend was popular at least once in a year for celebrating Eid Al-Fitr and apologize each other in Indonesia.
Origin
The origin of Online Handshake was unknown. One of the earliest photo associated with the trend was on May, 13th 2018 by Twitter[1] user @Askmenfess (The account was suspended) uploaded tweet that asking followers to upload their hand photo with handshake-like style for celebrating fasting due to Ramadan. The tweet received more than 1,325 retweets and 475 likes.
In the comment section, many Indonesian Twitter users uploaded their hand photos with handshake-like style. For example on May, 14th 2018, Twitter[2] user @aprettygrass uploaded photo of her hand with handshake-like style with caption "Maap ya aku suka salty" (English: Sorry that I always salty), the tweet received 36 retweets and 1 like (shown below).
Besides of that, many Indonesian users creating memes about it. For example on the same day, Twitter user @ourminies[3] uploaded photo of her hand with How Italian meme style. The tweet only received 1 like. (shown below).
Spread
After @Askmenfess's tweet, the trend was spreading to another platform such as Facebook. The trend always popular at least once in a year in every Eid Al-Fitr in Indonesia. For example on June, 5th 2019, Facebook[4] page "Indonesian Hoaxes" uploaded admin's hand with handshake-like style which to anime girl sticker named Moeta Kaoruko from Comic Girls for celebrating 2019 Eid Al-Fitr. The post received more than 898 reactions and 58 shares (shown below).
One day before 2020 Eid Al-Fitr, On May, 23rd 2020, Facebook[5] user Gilang Sinata uploaded his hand photo with handshake-like style in front of his laptop which JAV reference on his monitor. The post received 10 reactions (shown below).
On the same day, Facebook[6] Page "Polisi Pamong Pengeja" uploaded his hand photo with handshake-like style for celebrating 2020 Eid Al-Fitr with caption:
Kami segenap admin PPP mengucapkan Selamat Idulfitri, mohon maaf lahir dan batin.
Ingat ya, Idulfitri.
