On October 9th, 2020, Twitter user MajinBob13640^[1] uploaded the image of Patrick Bruel playing poker along with the caption, "Ne pas rendre son contrôle pour accuser le prof d’avoir perdu la copie." (Shown below.) This roughly translates to, "Not returning his test to accuse the teacher of having lost the copy." The post received over 39.2 thousand likes and 9.4 thousand retweets in 5 days, and is the earliest example of the meme.

Spread

Over the course of the next week, more French Twitter users started using the image macro. On October 11th, 2020, Twitter user Nero_AzC^[2] uploaded a version of the meme featuring a caption that roughly translates to, "When I flirt with my roommate with a fake tinder account so that he can do the housework since he thinks a chick is going to come and sleep over." (Shown below, left). The post received over 39 thousand likes and 9 thousand retweets in 5 days. On the same day, Twitter user KalKaLyo^[3] uploaded a meme that roughly translates to, "Save as .key so that PowerPoint can't open it and accuse the computer of a bug." (Shown below, right.) The image received over 2,000 likes and 225 retweets.

On October 12th, Bruel posted a version of his own meme, including a caption that roughly translates to, "Me when I am the last to realize that I am a meme…" (shown below). The post received over 277 thousand likes and 71 thousand retweets in 2 days.
