About

JCS Criminal Psychology refers to the YouTube channel by the same name. The channel posts videos that take a closer look at police interrogations, and then breaks down the specific behavior and mannerisms of the subject. Much more than a simple reaction video, JCS Criminal Psychology's content is presented as an educational documentary on very specific people and circumstances. The channel is most well-known for the video breakdown of the interrogation of Marjorie Stoneman Douglass shooter Nikolas Cruz, titled "What Pretending To Be Crazy Looks Like," that went viral in mid-2021.

Origin

The JCS Criminal Psychology channel was first made on February 1st, 2017, under the name Jim Can't Swim. The JCS Criminal Psychology channel uploaded the first video, titled "The Case of Chris Watts – pt. 1," to the main YouTube[1] channel on January 17th, 2019, and received 10 million views in two years (shown below). By October 1st, 2020, the video had received 5.1 million views and the channel name was already changed to JCS Criminal Psychology.

Spread

While the channel continued to get views, it wasn't given greater notoriety until their video "What pretending to be crazy looks like" released on their main YouTube[2] channel on May 26th, 2021. As noted by many people, the video was put in their trending and suggested feeds for a while around May and June 2021. The video received 40 million views in one month thanks to the favorable algorithm recommendations (shown below).

While being recommended to a large number of people, Twitter[3] user @AbhayPrasanna made notice of this and the effect it had on the channel's subscriber count. On June 6th, 2021, they tweeted[3] out the data, showing that a significant spike occurred since the video was put on several different trending pages at once (shown below).

YouTube Issues

On January 9th, 2022, the official Jim Can't Swim YouTube channel uploaded a video titled 'The End of JCS- Criminal Psychology' which talks about multiple videos on the channel being removed by YouTube without explanation, and how the future of the channel is now very much threatened by that. Many YouTubers such as Hasan Piker have reached out to JCS and their partner managers to try and resolve the situation.
