About
NikkieTutorials or Nikkie de Jager is a Dutch beauty YouTuber and professional makeup artist. She has won influencer awards and collaborated with cosmetic companies like Ofra and Too Faced.
Online History
On June 29th, 2008, NikkieTutorials uploaded her first make up tutorial video (shown below, left). The video gained over three million views and 68,000 likes in 12 years. Later de Jager admitted in an interview with HelloGiggles[1] to being inspired to start her YouTube channel after watching Lauren Conrad on The Hills. On May 10th, 2015, de Jager uploaded her most popular video "The Power of MAKEUP!" in which she proved that she was both happy with and without makeup (shown below, left). According to Business Insider,[2] the video went viral and gained over 41 million views and 865,000 likes in five years (shown below, right). In 2016, the Too Faced[9] and Nikkie Tutorials makeup collaboration released was released and in the following year, she released a makeup collaboration line with Ofra.[8]
Reputation
In 2017, Forbes magazine named De Jager one of the top ten beauty influencers that year. That same year, she won "YouTube Guru" at the Shorty Awards[10] and "Choice Fashion/Beauty Web Star" at the Teen Choice Awards.[11] As of January 2020, NikkieTutorials has over 1.9 million followers on Twitter,[3] 13.3 followers on Instagram[4] and 12.8 million subscribers on YouTube.[5]
Personal Life
Nikkie de Jager was born in the Netherlands and has two brothers one of whom died in May 2018 from cancer.[7] On August 6th, 2019, Nikki de Jager announced her engagement on Instagram.[6]
Coming Out
On January 13th, 2020, NikkiTutorials uploaded the video "I'm Coming Out" which hit the number one trending spot on YouTube the next day. In the video, de Jager comes out as transgender after revealing that she was being blackmailed with the fact. She explained that she went through her transition as a young teen on YouTube. The video gained over 18 million views and two million likes in a day. After releasing her video, she voiced her gratitude for all the support from viewers using Instagram[4] stories.
