About

TXT (short for Tomorrow x Together or Tomorrow by Together) is a K-pop boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment, the entertainment company and label known for forming and managing BTS. Consisting of Yeonjun, Soobin, Hueningkai, Taehyun, and Beomngyu, they are the first group to be formed by the company in six years. The group's name was officially revealed, following a link to a cryptic countdown posted to Twitter in January 2019, alongside social accounts and a trailer featuring the first revealed member of the group, Yeonjun. They would debut in March with their EP The Dream Chapter: STAR.

History

Some had expected Big Hit to start another group as there were reports as early as late November 2018 that the company had finalized the creation of a new group. On January 9th, 2019, the official Twitter account for Big Hit Entertainment tweeted a picture with the caption "What do you do? What do you see?" alongside a link to a countdown site counting towards January 10th (shown below). Followers of Big Hit Entertainment would later look at the source code and changing time zones so as to skip the countdown, finding keywords such as "New Boy Group", and discovering that upon changing time zones to the end of the countdown date, the site's URL had changed to "txt.ibighit.com."

The next day, on January 10th, it was revealed that Big Hit would debut a new K-pop group called TXT, short for Tomorrow x Together. Alongside the announcement would be the reveal of one of the members for the group, Yeonjun. A short trailer featuring Yeonjun was uploaded to Youtube the same day and has garnered over 3 million views within a few hours of uploading. In the next few days, teasers featuring members Soobin, Hueningkai, Taehyun, and Beomngyu would be uploaded before a teaser featuring the group in its entirety was uploaded on the 23rd.

From January 27th to January 31st, five more teasers called "Questioning Films" were uploaded to Youtube featuring the five members separately (examples shown below). On February 6th, it was announced that the group would formally debut on March 4th with the release of their first EP The Dream Chapter: STAR. An accompanying debut stage performance was also announced for the same day along with a showcase the following day.

Debut

On March 4th, to coincide with the release of the group's debut EP The Dream Chapter: STAR that same day, a music video for the EP's lead single "CROWN" was uploaded to Youtube by Big Hit Entertainment. Within 2 days since uploading, the music video (shown below) garnered over 18 million views. On March 5th, it was announced that the group signed a distribution deal with major label Republic Records.

Since release, the EP peaked at the top of the Billboard World Albums chart and at number 140 on the Billboard 200.

Media Coverage

The initial announcement and coverage of the group was reported by publications and blogs such as Billboard, Metro UK, and Soompi, and keywords and hashtags such as Yeonjun, BigHit, and #TOMORROW_X_TOGETHER trending worldwide on Twitter, with the announcement even getting coverage on Twitter Moments.

Online Relevance

Official social media accounts for the band were opened on January 10th, with accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Weibo, and Youku, alongside a Youtube channel. A Twitter account used by the members themselves also exists with over a million followers, and an official Japanese account with over 100,000 followers.

A subreddit for the group was created the same day by /u/AnpanMae, garnering over 1000 subscribers in 6 hours. Fan accounts have also been made for the band on Twitter within hours after the announcement as well.
