The Professor Layton Figure is a Revoltech toy released in Japan based on the character Professor Layton from the same series. In a similar style of Hentai Woody, it features Layton placed in different scenarios. Pictures are often used as image macros where the overlaid text contains one of Professor Layton's notable catchphrases.

Origin

in 2006, Japanese toy company Kaiyodo^[1] started to make and release a series of Revoltech line of toys. In 2010, Kaiyodo released a new line of toys focusing on iconic characters from Japanese and American film and television series. In March of 2010, around the same time they announced the Toy Story line of toys, Kaiyodo released a series of Professor Layton related toys, which came with Layton related add-ons, such as a tea-set and a notebook.

Spread

After the release of the Figures, Different parodies of the toy started pop up on sites like Tumblr^[2] as well as others. These images, usually placed Layton in either awkward situations, or sitting with another person at the table included in the set. The figure also got reviewed on Destructoid^[4], AnimeNewsNetwork^[5] and Tomopop^[6]. As well as several review videos on Youtube and a page on the Nintendo Wikia^[7].

Notable Examples

Shotgun Layton

Shotgun Layton is an Advice Animal style image macro featuring a picture of Professor Layton hiding behind a table while reloading a shotgun. The first variation of the image macro can be found on a thread entitled "I'll just pretend im not expecting macros…", which was posted along with a blank photo of the specific Layton figure to 4chan's /v/ Video Game board on December 3rd, 2010.^[3] The original blank image was also featured on Kotaku^[8], Super Punch^[9] and Feed The Gamer^[10].
