So, you don't need to use link shorteners on Mastodon as they won't actually affect the link's length. What you get depends on your sysadmin. You can't search, everything has to be shared to you by a human. Networks split apart and rejoin. What you see is your unique connection to it. Is this good? Maybe. But for me that's the internet I grew up with. Is there some kind of hostility going on between Mastodon & GNU social? Because that would be weird, especially since Mastodon is built to federate with existing GNU Social servers. (Sorry for asking, I'm just snoopy.) Gargon, guy who runs it, asks a bunch of devs for help. Gargon starts being a lot more rude and insulting to people trying to help, or people just with different political opinions, his userbase at the time does too. This colncides, to no surprise, with them requesting cutting off federation. GNUsocial people ain't happy, a lot of the users that were being witchhunted are the far more peaceful ones, they voice their complaints, try to help eachother out a bit more, their bonds are strengthened through a common "wow a bunch of those Masto lot are d-------- huh? Main-Masto starts cutting off federation more and more, handing out bans, Gargon continues being a prick. Masto gets more popular, new people have no idea of Masto being s--- in the past, assume "GNUpeople" are bad guys.

Is there some kind of hostility going on between Mastodon & GNU social? Because that would be weird, especially since Mastodon is built to federate with existing GNU Social servers. (Sorry for asking, I'm just snoopy.) Gargon, guy who runs it, asks a bunch of devs for help. Gargon starts being a lot more rude and insulting to people trying to help, or people just with different political opinions, his userbase at the time does too. This colncides, to no surprise, with them requesting cutting off federation. GNUsocial people ain't happy, a lot of the users that were being witchhunted are the far more peaceful ones, they voice their complaints, try to help eachother out a bit more, their bonds are strengthened through a common "wow a bunch of those Masto lot are d-------- huh? Main-Masto starts cutting off federation more and more, handing out bans, Gargon continues being a prick. Masto gets more popular, new people have no idea of Masto being s--- in the past, assume "GNUpeople" are bad guys.
