The Snapchat Kill Guy is an image macro meme featuring an image of YouTuber FranzJ making a malevolent smile while holding up a can of Monster Energy Drink with the Snapchat caption "Kill."

Origin

According to a screenshot on Snapchat's memory page, the image was photo was taken on November 17th, 2017 (shown below, left).

On August 29th, 2019, FranzJ tweeted ^[1] the image with the caption "new headed what u think." The tweet received more than 930 likes and 75 retweets in less than one year (shown below).

Spread

Perhaps in response to one of the tweet's replies to "make this merch,"^[2] FranzJ began selling merch based on the image at some point. The merch consisted of a deep-fried edit of the image with the caption "DEATH FUEL," which can be seen in the thumbnail of an unlisted August 29th, 2019 FranzJ YouTube stream.^[3][4]

The image continued to spread around the internet, as well. On October 30th, 2019, Redditor saucysquidghety shared the image in the /r/cursedimages^[5] subreddit with the caption "cursed drink." The post received more than 1,000 points (90% upvoted) in less than one year (shown below, left).

Some began posting image edits of the photo. For example, on February 7th, 2020, Redditor Shorkytf2 shared a version of the image in the ./r/tf2^[6] subreddit made to look like a character from Team Fortress 2 with the caption "piss." The post received more than 1,600 points (99% upvoted) in less than one year (shown below, center). On May 3rd, Redditor NoRedditorHere shared an image of the Team Fortress 2 character Scout impersonating the meme in the /r/tf2^[7] subreddit. The post received more than 800 points (98% upvoted) in less than on (Shown below).
