About
Snicker Cat refers to a series of viral short-form videos centered on a black cat character named Snicker, most commonly associated with the Instagram account @thesnickercat The videos usually depict Snicker and other cats driving cars, drifting, parking, escaping danger, avoiding crashes or performing exaggerated driving stunts.
The meme became popular on Instagram Reels through highly edited action and comedy clips that present the cat as an unusually skilled, chaotic or heroic driver. The humor of the meme often comes from treating impossible cat-driving situations as normal everyday events. The account’s bio describes Snicker as the “Best driver in the world."
The account publicly celebrated reaching 1 million followers on August 8th, 2025, posting on X: “Snicker army has reached 1 million followers. Thank you all Happy international cat day! MEOW.” Since August 8th is also International Cat Day, the milestone was framed as part of the Snicker Cat community’s growth and cat-themed identity.
Origin
Snicker Cat was inspired by the broader Cat Driving a Car meme, which originated from a TikTok video posted by Shaina Culpepper, known as @culpepurrr, on February 25th, 2023. The video featured her white cat Louie sitting behind a steering wheel and turning it, with the text overlay “Trying to find an address in 1994…” According to Know Your Meme, the video later became an exploitable TikTok greenscreen template in mid-2023.
Snicker Cat developed as a separate character-based version of the driving-cat format. Instead of relying on the original Louie clip, Snicker Cat built an ongoing identity around a black cat character named Snicker, using recurring car, racing, drifting, parking and chase scenarios. The Instagram account @thesnickercat began posting Snicker-focused driving cat videos and later became the main source associated with the meme.
One of the earliest major viral Snicker Cat examples was posted on March 15th, 2024, when @thesnickercat uploaded a Reel captioned “Me and my homie ridin.” The post became one of the account’s most widely circulated videos, receiving around 18 million likes and 78,000 comments.
Spread
Snicker Cat spread primarily through Instagram Reels, where the meme’s short, fast-paced and highly visual format fit well with the platform’s recommendation algorithm. The videos often use action-style editing, vehicle sound effects, crash-avoidance humor and simple captions that make the scenes easy to understand without additional context.
The March 15th, 2024 Reel “Me and my homie ridin” was one of the account’s first major viral uploads.
The video showed Snicker Cat in a driving scenario with another cat, using the recurring joke that cats are confidently operating vehicles like humans. The post received around 18 million likes and 78,000 comments, helping establish Snicker Cat as a recognizable Instagram meme rather than a single viral clip.
On July 26th, 2025, @thesnickercat posted another viral Reel captioned “Just a casual park job.” The post used the same absurd driving-cat premise, framing an exaggerated parking situation as if it were a normal moment. The video received around 17 million likes and 47,000 comments, becoming one of the most viral Snicker Cat uploads.
On August 15th, 2025, @thesnickercat posted “Snicker serves justice.” Unlike earlier examples that focused mainly on driving or parking, this video showed Snicker Cat as a character in a short action-style narrative. The post received around 5 million likes and 18,000 comments, showing how the meme had expanded from simple car jokes into recurring story-based videos.
As the account continued posting, Snicker Cat became associated with recurring themes such as reckless driving, perfect parking, heroic intervention, high-speed escapes and cats behaving like human drivers. The videos were also reposted and referenced by meme pages, car pages and animal-content accounts, helping the character spread beyond the original page.
A screenshot of the @thesnickercat Instagram Reels tab shows several Snicker Cat videos reaching tens or hundreds of millions of views. The most-viewed visible Reel had approximately 353 million views, followed by other videos with around 239 million, 101 million, 73.5 million, 57.8 million, 49.2 million, 48 million, 45 million and 41.8 million views. These view counts show the meme’s large-scale spread on Instagram Reels and its repeated viral performance rather than a single isolated viral post.
On March 19, 2024, rapper Snoop Dogg shared a Snicker Cat video originally associated with @thesnickercat. The post gave the format additional visibility outside the original account’s audience.
