Squidward "Please Come In" refers to a scene from a 2008 episode of SpongeBob SquarePants where Squidward opens his front door and uncharacteristically welcomes SpongeBob inside. The scene was first used as a meme on YouTube in October 2021 and became increasingly popularized as an exploitable over the following months, with people replacing SpongeBob with other characters and things entering Squidward's house.

Origin

On March 4th, 2008, season six, episode 104a of SpongeBob SquarePants, titled "Not Normal," aired on television.[1] The episode's plot revolves around Squidward insisting that SpongeBob become "normal." Around the 6:35-minute mark of the episode, the normalized SpongeBob arrives at Squidward's door and he lets him in, saying, "I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but please come in, SpongeBob," then pours SpongeBob some tea (shown below).



On October 30th, 2021, YouTuber[2] Firecreeper posted a video consisting of several edits of the scene where Squidward lets a number of kaiju monsters from the Godzilla franchise into his home, gaining over 220,000 views in four months (shown below). This is the earliest known meme using the scene.

On January 18th, 2022, YouTuber[3] Paul Wil slap u posted a new version of the meme where a large number of SpongeBobs pile into Squidward's house, causing it to explode, gaining over 1.1 million views in a month (shown below).



On January 27th, YouTuber[4] greennotpeace posted a new version of the meme where various mashed-up versions of characters from the series come to the door, gaining over 776,000 views in three weeks (shown below, left). On February 1st, YouTuber[5] Green Flin posted a similar meme, gaining over 3.1 million views in two weeks (shown below, right).
