About

Abiotic Factor is a cooperative survival crafting video game in which the players, a group of scientists, are tasked with survival and escaping an underground research facility following a cataclysmic event. Drawing inspiration from the Black Mesa incident and scientists in Half-Life, the game was released into early access in May 2024.

History

On September 28th, 2022, Deep Field Games announced[1] Abiotic Factor, a narrative-driven survival crafting video game for up to six players set in the depths of an underground research facility. The game events are set in motion by a failure to contain a cataclysmic event, with a group of scientists trying to survive the unleashed chaos.

On May 2nd, 2024, the game was rereleased into early access on Steam[2] (release trailer[3] shown below).



Gameplay and Features

Abiotic Factor is a one to six player cooperative crafting survival video game. In the game, the players are able to explore the facility and gather various resources while trying to avoid (or fight) monsters and other enemies. The players are able to craft weapons and other items using the resources found, improve their base, with the ultimate goal being escaping from the facility.



Fandom

The release of the game was followed by reactions and videos on social media. On May 2nd, 2024, voice actor Gianni Matragrano wrote about the game, with the post gaining over 100 reposts and 800 likes on X[4] in one day (shown below, left). Later May 2nd, 2024, X[5] user @the_pseudoverse posted a GIF caption meme based on the gameplay (shown below, right).

Players must complete demands from "The Company" under the threat of being "fired", which, in short, means being exterminated. The game was released in October 2023 and quickly became one of Steam's most popular survival-horror games in 2023.
