About

AMV Hell is a series of parody AMV compilations that first appeared in 2004. The parody series has inspired several other parody compilation series for other media such as videogames and western animated shows.

Origin

The first video (shown below, left) in the AMV Hell series was released at the anime conventions Animazement 2004 and FanimeCon 2004 by Zarxrax and ssgwnbtd.[1] Another video was released the same day, which was titled AMV Hell 2: Son of AMV Hell.[2] This video contained more AMV content that was not suitable for showing at the conventions (shown below, right).

Gendowned

Gendowned is a term refering to a series of videos and gifs depicting the character Gendo Ikari from the anime and manga series Neon Genesis Evangelion firing his pistol, which then cuts to a clip of someone being hit or something exploding, the clip cuts back to Gendo with the caption "GENDOWNED" written in all caps, the video is set to a clip of the song "For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)" by Australian Band AC/DC.
