DayZ is an open world survival horror game designed by Dean Hall for the 2009 video game ARMA 2 and the 2010 expansion pack Operation Arrowhead. The game is set in the post apocalyptic region of Chernarus, a map from ARMA 2.

Origin

The concept for DayZ was originally thought up by Dean Hall while he was in the New Zealand Army as a suggestion for training soldiers by placing them in situations that evoke emotion or relevant thought processes for the current situation. Dean was also inspired by experiences during jungle training while on an exchange with the Singapore Armed Forces in Brunei, where he was badly injured in a survival skills exercise.

Spread

The spread of the original mod was largely due to media reception and consumers' desire for something that provided a significant challenge, as well as famous youtubers such as FRANKIEonPCn1080p and JackFrags recording and uploading videos about the mod, further increasing its popularity.

Bambi

Bambi is a name given to new players who generally have no idea how to play the mod, and are typically underage, given the fact that most Bambies simply bought ARMA 2 and Operation Arrowhead to follow a bandwagon/hype train. The term Bambi also applies to other games as well as DayZ, such as Battlefield.

PMC

PMC is a well known bandit clan that typically holds up bambis, fresh spawns, and kills on sight. Members of the clan typically hold up in areas such as Devils Castle and the Chernarus Airfields, due to the high chance that players will come there looking for military grade gear and equipment.
