Father Ted is a comedy sitcom, based on the day to day life of 3 priests, living on the fictional place off the coast of ireland, the main characters are as follows;
Father Ted: a priest who's desperate attempts to breakout into show business (played by dermot morgan)
Father Doogle: a buffoon who, miraculously, somehow managed to become a "priest" (played by Ardal O'Hanlon)
and Father Jack: a aged priest, father jack is a raging, sexist drunk, and barley manages to remain conscience, let alone say mass. (played by Frank Kelly) the three never seem to get along, with both ted and doogle living in fear of father jack, ted, who appears the most "normal" out of the three, lives bewildered by the idiocy of father doogle.

the world in which the characters live, craggy island,is inhabited by strange and unique people, including "tom" a man (that appears) psychotic, a couple that own a shop, who appear in a perfect relationship when father ted is present, but appear to be just short of murdering one another.

father ted is a very popular programme in ireland, england, and with the aid of the internet, has begun to show appeal in america.
it has spawned a host of noteworthy memes, including "down with this sort of thing, careful now!", "my lovely horse" and "I love my brick"
the memes are often used in relevance to current events, as a way of pointing out the stupidity of some events.
the popular series ended due to the unfortunate demise of Dermot morgan, who suffered a fatal heart attack.
the show although has since retained its popularity, and entertains more and more viewers everyday.
