About

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an action role-playing game released for Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It was directed by Daniel Vávra, developed by Warhorse Studio and published by Deep Silver. Though the game was generally favorably reviewed upon release, it was criticized for an abundance of bugs which were patched after release.

History

The game was an original idea by Daniel Vávra in 2009.[1] After searching for investors for two years, a private investor funded a prototype of the game, leading to the creation of Warhorse Studios in 2011. After developing the prototype, the team failed to find international investors, leading them to take to Kickstarter on January 22nd, 2014 with the effort of generating 10% of their budget to prove their game had an audience. The Kickstarter gained 1.1 million Euro, over 800,00 Euro over their goal. On October 1st, 2014, Vávra announced the game had raised over $2 million. A beta version was released in March of 2015 for those who'd backed the Kickstarter. A trailer for the game was released on June 17th of that year (shown below, left). The final trailer for the game was released on February 1st, 2018 (shown below, right).

The game was released on February 13th, 2018. The game topped the Steam best-seller list on the day of release, and reportedly sold over 500,000 copies in its first two days. Many players noticed an abundance of bugs in the game, and a day-one patch of the game was 23 GB large.[3] Some players did not receive the patches, leading to confusion as to what the most recent version of the game was. Warhorse Studios clarified the patches in a lengthy Reddit post.[4]

Reception

The game was fairly well-received by critics, scoring a 75/100 on Metacritic.[2] Critics praised the game's ambition, comparing it to a hardcore version of an Elder Scrolls. However, many critics noted an abundance of bugs that hampered the playing experience.

Online Presence

Kingdom Come: Deliverance has developed a solid online presence. A subreddit for the game has gained over 31,000 readers.[5] The game also has 78,000 likes on Facebook. [6] On February 19th, 2018, Deep Silver tweeted a review of the game from Steam which underlined how difficult the game was, gaining 860 retweets and 3,400 likes (shown below).
