About

Overdose is the working title for a horror video game reportedly being developed by game designer Hideo Kojima starring actress Margaret Qualley. The development and the working name were first reported by game industry insider Tom Henderson in June 2022, with a leaker also sharing a screenshot from the purported footage.

History

On June 7th, 2022, freelance video game writer Tom Henderson reported[1] via Try hard Guides[2] that he has been sent early footage of a video game in development by Hideo Kojima's studio Kojima Productions (tweet shown below). Henderson reported that the footage showed a character in a blue dress, portrayed by actress Margaret Qualley who also played Mama in Kojima's previous game Death Stranding, walking through dark corridors with a flashlight in third-person. The game appeared to have a horror setting, with the footage ending with a jumpscare, the words "GAMEOVER" followed by "A Hideo Kojima Game OVERDOSE." Later on June 7th, Kojima Productions reached out to Try Hard Guides with a request to remove the report.[9]

On the same day, Twitter user @eXtras1stv quote tweeted[3][4] Henderson's tweet with a screenshot of the purported game's logo, later deleting the tweet. Later that day, Redditor[5] J_NewCastle reposted the screenshot to /r/GamingLeaksAndRumors, where it gained over 420 upvotes in one day (tweet and image shown below, top and bottom).
