The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! is a cartoon based upon the popular Super Mario Bros. series of video games, particularly the first two games (only those and the arcade game had been released at the time of the show's debut). It consisted of a live action segment and a cartoon segment. The show was a relative success, and spawned a continuation related to Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World (albeit without a live action segment on both cartoon series).

All three shows have since been released onto DVD. However, one DVD set of Super Mario Bros. features Inspector Gadget (another popular eighties show, with both being presented by the Wonderful World of Dic [pronounced deek]) on the menu. He explains how to use the menu, but has caused confusion as to why he appears in a Mario DVD set.

Gadget's dialogue on the menu screen has been parodied numerous times, particularly on Youtube.

An example can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymznSxe2m3w

It should be noted, however, that a DVD set released by Shout! Factory (responsible for the release of several other cartoons from the eighties and nineties onto DVD) has a proper menu screen. That menu schreen can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpho33EFeAA
