About

Thinking Foot, sometimes referred to as Thinking Holding Cup Foot, is a reaction face featuring a man striking a typical thinking pose with both hands, while holding a tea cup with his left foot. It has commonly been used as a reaction image.

Origin

The original picture, of unknown origin, has been circulating online since at least 2013. It depicts a poorly drawn man in a thinking pose, his left hand on his chin and his right hand on his left elbow, holding a steamy cup by the handle with two toes. It is sometimes associated with the onomatopoeia "Hmmm".

Spread

This image has ben used mostly in reaction to puzzling or dubious situations, similarly to the Thinking Face emoji and the Thinking rage comics character. The most famous instance of it is associated with the automatic suggestion of the Google searching bar: "if you die in canada do you die in real life".

Google if you die in canada do if you die in canada do you die in real life Google Search rm Feeling Lucky

It also has been the basis for redraws with fictional characters, for instance Dementia from Vilanos, or Darjeeling from Girls und Panzer[1]

Some internauts even went so far as to recreate the iconic pose themselves and post their photographs online, as archived on Imgur[2][3].
