Ur So Quiet in Person is a phrasal template series in which people react to being told that they are quieter in person than they are online.

Origin

On October 19th, 2009, Twitter ^[1] user @iibreakbacks published the earliest available usage of the phrase online. They wrote, "oooop lol…..it was good to see u last night but anyway hi ur so quiet in person lol" (shown below).

Over the next decade, usage of the phrase continued to spread online. On February 7th, 2012, for example, Twitter^[2] @byrd0323 tweeted, "Ur so quiet in person, but u talk alotta shit #IGetThatAlot" (shown below, left).

However, Twitter^[3] user @jennaa134 posted the earliest available usage of the phrase as presented in the snowclone, writing, "'Ur so quiet in person' Well tf do u want me to do? … Sing?" (shown below, right).

Spread

Throughout 2020, the snowclone continued appear on Twitter. On February 22nd, 2020, Twitter^[4] user @stormynicole14 "'ur so quiet in person' ya lemme jus bust out w a freestyle rn" (shown below).

That year, people continued to post variations on the "freestyle" tweet. The first time it reached more than 1,000 likes was on September 19th, when Twitter^[5] user @UltimateSonix tweeted, "'Ur so quiet in person' tf u want me to do, freestyle???" The tweet received more than 2,000 likes and 240 retweets in less than one year (shown below, left). The following week, on September 25th, Twitter^[6] user @clsdapp tweeted, "'ur so quiet in person' me: fuck u want me to do… rap?" The tweet received more than 5,700 likes and 1,200 retweets in less than one year (shown below, right).

On March 6th, 2021, Twitter^[7] user @KayziaJanay tweeted, "'ur so quiet in person' LMAO what u want me to do…. freestyle?" The tweet received more than 411,000 likes and 81,000 retweets in less than one month (shown below).
