About
"Wheres Daddy" is a small comic from Nedroid Comics in early 2011. The meme subverts the the wheres daddy/mommy trope that if the baby (jeffy) knows where they are then the baby must know where a more important and harder to find thing is. The meme is often used to show the importance of finding missing individuals, things or abstract ideas or the humor of asking a particular individual where something/some people are.
Origin
The meme comes from a webcomic entitled 'tactics' published by Nedroid comics on the 29th of January 2011. In the comic the father is playing the "Wheres Mommy/Daddy" routine, when the son Jeffy is asked "wheres Bin Laden?" to Jeffys shock.
This comical ending, merging the innocence of a baby, with Bin Laden, sparked a fast paced chain reaction of re-edits on FunnyJunk.com and other Image sharing websites.
Spread
the first dated instance of the comic being used as a meme is on the subreddit r/funny by u/cornishpaddy on April 20th 2013. the meme was about the search for the Boston Marathon Bomber suspect.
From there it has also been used to comment upon the search from flight mh370, the Armenian genocide, Gordon Ramsay's Lamb Sauce, and many other topics.
