Women, I'll Let You In On a Male Secret refers to jokes made about a tweet by Julian Assange in which he lets women know the "secret" that men know performative male feminists are often people with bad intentions towards women, and are viewed negatively by their peers for their manipulative qualities.
Origin
On October 21st, 2017, Julian Assange tweeted "Women, I will let you in on a male secret. Men know that constantly self-proclaiming male 'feminists' are often predatory sleaze bags. They are intensely disliked by other men because of their manipulative qualities and not, in general, because they are viewed to be sex traitors."[1] The tweet gained over 16,000 retweets and 40,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
Assange's tweet was quickly mocked online for what some saw as Assange's pompousness in revealing a "secret" that many already took as common knowledge. Some doubted the sincerity of Assange's tweet, noting that Assange himself had dodged sexual assault charges in his past (examples shown below).
Others joked about Assange's tweet by sarcastically confessing various absurd male "secrets." @mutablejoe[2] tweeted a joke referencing a well-known gag in which people pretend to walk down stairs behind a sofa, gaining over 2,300 retweets and 13,000 likes (shown below, left). User @ImACultHero[3] posted another absurd joke about mens' pockets which gained over 660 retweets and 3,400 likes (shown below, right).
Other users jokes about the tweet by pairing it with various pictures of characters, making it seem as though they were saying the line. For example, a tweet by @MaxDunbar1[4] paired the phrase with a picture of Lionel Hutz from The Simpsons, gaining over 150 retweets (shown below, left). Another by @iratesheep[5] paired the tweet with the cast of Scooby Doo, gaining over 110 retweets (shown below, right).
