On December 6th, 2018, YouTube channel REACT! uploaded a video to their channel involving college-aged internet personalities reacting to the trailer for The Lion King (2019), gaining over 1.3 million views.

Spread

The above video received attention from YouTuber YourMovieSucks during his live streams of his editing of his upcoming review of The Lion King (2019). The "pride rock" moment was archived on his Twitter timeline on July 23rd, 2020 (shown below).

One of the earliest known usages of the phrase in meme format was on r/kimbamemes,^[1] posted by Reddit user u/QuarantineTitans on July 17th, 2020. The post has received 157 upvotes as of October 21, 2020.

The clip featuring Brando Commando's reaction was uploaded YourMovieSucks' stream highlight channel on August 19th, 2020, where it has garnered over 128,000 views as of October 21st, 2020 (shown below).

This led to multiple video parodies of the moment. For example, on August 20th, 2020, YouTuber Wheel Sun TV posted a parody which made the phrase say "nice cock" (shown below, left). The same day, YouTuber GloofiE posted a similar joke (shown below, right).
