About
Young Witch In the Alps is a series of memes based on a Twitter / X post in which user @moreelen expresses her desire for a game in the style of Disco Elysium about a "young witch trying to solve the disappearance of her neighbour's cat in a small village in the Alps." The post was made in January 2020 and went viral in March 2023 after it was reposted by another X user, inspiring memes over the following months, including fan art, with the original post text becoming a copypasta.
Origin
On January 26th, 2020, X user @moreelen made a post listing her likes and dislikes regarding the video game Disco Elysium. In the post, which is unavailable due to the user going private, she writes that she loves the "vast possibility space due to genius feat of design" and the writing of the game, but doesn't like that the game is "another grimy detective story" and that you play as a "generic middle aged white man."
In another tweet under the thread, she elaborates, writing, "I want a game that uses Disco Elysium's same insanely well crafted narrative system and wonderful writing… but it's about a young witch trying to solve the disappearance of her neighbour's cat in a small village in the Alps." She also shares a GIF of a young red-haired witch made by Tumblr[1] user megaelod in 2019.
On March 3rd, 2023, X[2] user @heresiarchs posted screenshots of both posts, writing, "do you ever think about a tweet from years ago and get mad at it all over again. i just remembered these two," garnering over 3,400 likes and 600 reposts in roughly two years.

On October 23rd, Tumblr[9] uservioletreminder made a text post about the "witch in the Alps" post, wishing that it never leaves gaming discourse, garnering over 40,000 notes in two months. The post reads:
I hope the “What if Disco Elysium was about a witch finding her cat in the mountains” post never leaves the gaming discourse vernacular. It will never not be funny to me bc it’s got all the Gamer Entitlement™ levels of CoD bros throwing hissy fits about “woke” shit but instead of being couched in far right reactionism it’s the exact kind of “Kingdom of Conscience” style liberal outrage at anything with conviction and beliefs that DE waxed on about. Like even chuds who get mad that the game calls you out for being racist interact with the themes of DE better and understand them more than Cat Lady did.

On November 28th, u/Sp00kyo posted a piece of art to /r/DiscoElysiu[14] imagining what the gameplay of the "witch in the Alps" game might look like, titling the post, "THE WITCH OF THE ALPS AND HARRY," garnering over 2,500 upvotes in a month.
