ChatGPT Goes Down And Is Now Reportedly Worse At Math Leading To Memes And Desperation
Right as the work day started this morning, ChatGPT by OpenAI experienced an outage according to the website Down Detector and its many users who reported problems.
This outage, coming shortly after an outage on Tuesday and the rollout of a new version of ChatGPT intended for business use, led many to wonder if their favorite artificially intelligent coworker was okay or not.
As of noon EST today, ChatGPT had been down for almost two hours with thousands reporting issues online.
So far, OpenAI has not yet released the reason why the problems with its chatbot occurred.
On X and other social media platforms throughout the day, users shared memes that spoke of how much they had come to rely on ChatGPT to do homework, research and even to write emails and messages to other people.
Others took the opportunity to joke about their relationship with the artificial intelligence model.
The outage comes as some of the initial hype around ChatGPT has seemingly started to wear off. Some have even questioned whether the AI chatbot has gotten worse than it was at the time of its official release, though this is debated.
A recent paper published by researchers at Berkeley showed that ChatGPT, as it existed in June 2023, was actually worse at a number of mathematical and verbal tasks than it was in March.
There is not a clear reason why this may be the case, although it is possible that there is some information OpenAI has not shared with researchers or the public.
