When the going gets tough, you gotta go Long. Justin Long, that is.

Intel is having a hard time since their split with Apple, who switched to their own processors last year and plans to ditch Intel processors entirely by next year. The new processors boast impressive improvements over their Intel forefathers, so Intel's ready to fight dirty.

In a new advertisement for Intel, they're not reviving those multi-colored astronauts that supposedly work inside your Intel Pentium Processor. They turned to former Apple pitchman Justin Long. Long made a name for himself in the early-00s as the "Mac Guy," starring alongside John Hodgeman in the "I'm a Mac / I'm a PC" commercials." Oh, how times have changed.

This new ad for Intel, however, doesn't feature the Mac Guy. It features Justin, "a person," hocking Windows-based PCs with Intel inside. "Nice," he says, approving of the Intel logo. Isn't anyone loyal anymore?

Long has done a whole series of commercials for Intel, showing off all the things his PC can do that his Mac cannot. The first has reached #42 on YouTube's trending charts.

Of course, news of Long's betrayal (as much as being hired by another employer to a job can be considered a betrayal) has rocked social media to its very core, with some evoking the great Verizon "Can you hear me now" guy treachery of 2016.

Not everyone is mad, though. Some are just angry with the blatant disregard for Justin Long's successful film career that comes with referring to him as the "Mac Guy." Dodgeball, Waiting and Accepted hives are on the attack, standing up for their man. In the early 2000s, Long led several successful comedies, and in 2011 voiced the iconic Alvin in the even more iconic Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. His Alvin is munkin' canon. We have no choice but to stan.

Other fans are just happy to see the guy making a little money. Times are tight!

Long isn't the only one dusting off the old Apple ad. A few months ago, in an apparent slam on Intel, Apple brought the PC Guy, John Hodgeman, back for another ad about their M1 processors. Will these chip wars ever end? If anyone can end it, it's Alvin CHIPmunk. Get it? Eh, don't worry about it.
