If you consider yourself a scholar of internet trolling, it's an indisputable fact that Nickelback's "biggest hits" have become the standard sauce when it comes to the art of bait-and-switch tricks. Itching to mildly infuriate your friends on Facebook? Make them like dozens of Nickelback-related fan groups. Looking for that perfect throwback "alt rock" ballad to put a cringe on everyone's faces? Nickelback's got your back (for my money, Photograph is the best choice).

And just as Rickrolling did in the past decade, Nickelback is the ultimate troll train that cannot be stopped. The latest, and perhaps the most high-profile, individual to fall victim to Nickelback's nuisance is Nebraska's Republican Senator Ben Sasse. On June 16th, 2017, Sasse got mad online and sent out a beautiful tweet because someone had signed him up for the Nickelback Newsletter.

Ben Sasse Tweet

Look at this tweet (every time I do it makes me laugh, yadda yadda). It's a work of art. The periods after every word so that you know he means business are very Italian Chef Kiss. Just imagine the Senator working very hard on not revealing the details of the American Health Care Act when all of a sudden he gets emails alerting him about the goings on of the Canadian rock band. At this injustice, he takes to Twitter and puts on his serious typing fingers and lets the vile troll know He Is Not Amused. It's all quite worth of a Sensible Chuckle.

It'd be one thing if Sasse had no opinion about Nickelback and a troll thought it'd be funny to sign him up for their newsletter, but what makes this story all the sweeter is that Sasse has been cracking corny Nickelback jokes for months on Twitter. Let's take a look at some of the Sasseman's work, shall we?

You'd think he'd welcome Nickelback's newsletter to help him write fresher material, no? Alas, it seems Sasse can dish out jokes to Nickelback, but he can't take them himself. In a statement released via The Verge, Sasse said “I'm not sure what Canada does but, in this country, cruel and unusual punishment is outlawed. This crossed a line.” Is anyone else starting to think Sasse secretly loves Nickelback? To paraphrase "Photograph," How did his face get so red, just from being subscribed to email threads?
