Internet Reacts To Harvey Weinstein Conviction
Harvey Weinstein, the once-powerful Hollywood producer and whose sexual assault allegations spearheaded the #MeToo movement, has been found guilty of two counts of rape and faces 25 years in prison. The jury, however, acquitted Weinstein of predatory sexual assault, the most serious charges against him.
Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree rape of former actress Jessica Mann and first-degree criminal sexual assault of former Porject Runway production assistant Mimi Haley. More than 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual assault and harassment, reports NBC.
According to the New York Times:
The jury found Mr. Weinstein guilty of two counts, criminal sexual assault in the first degree and rape in the third degree. On the two counts of predatory sexual assault, the not guilty verdicts suggested that one or some jurors did not believe the testimony of Annabella Sciorra, an actress best known for her work in The Sopranos.

I hope Weinstein's conviction gets a lot of coverage to show that there are consequences, no matter how powerful you are. That said, I know that the conversation around this will not always be nuanced and can be hard on survivors. I hope we all keep that in mind.

Weinstein terrorized and attacked women for decades.
Now he will sit in a prison cell where he belongs.
Sending so much love, support and most of all gratitude to Annabella Sciorra and all of the women who came forward.— Padma Lakshmi (@PadmaLakshmi) February 24, 2020
Weinstein still faces sentencing for the two charges. He faces between five and 25 years. He is also awaiting trial for sexual assault charges in Los Angeles.
